My turn as the Love Doctor?

A female friend introduced her hot girl friend to a tall, mid thirties Wall Street guy with an Ivy MBA from Stamford. She thought he was perfect for her late 20's former party girl friend from CT who's now ready for a serious relationship. After a late night at PM Nightclub all three decide to share a ride home together in a cab.

When the new couple dropped off the woman who introduced them, Miss Matchmaker offered to pay for her share so she handed Mr. Wall St. $10. He accepted it and he gave her $5 back. Former Party girl decides to stay over Mr. Wall's place and in the morning says "Can you lend me $10 for a cab since I didn't have time to go to a cash machine last night." He cheerfully replies "no problem there's a cash machine in my lobby which you can use."

Now both Miss Matchmaker and Former Party Girl are completely turned off by Mr. Wall St.'s "lack of manners." They think he should be graciously paying all these "nickel and dime" expenses. They now consider him a cheapskate. And hot girls don't date cheapskates. So my question is: "If Former Party Girl is serious about getting into a relationship, should she reframe her view of Mr. Wall St. from "cheapskate" to "responsible guy who will never miss a mortgage payment?"

-- Mr. Wall Street was totally cheap for accepting Ms. Matchmaker's offer to pay part of the cab.  There he was an idiot -- he should have just waved his hand and said "no problem".  Especially since Matchmaker was doing him a big favor in setting him up.
-- On the one hand, I hate when certain women make up that white lie about "not having time to got a cash machine" (do you ever notice that gorgeous women always walk around with $5 in their wallet?).   That's so bogus.  And that whole charade of asking if they can "borrow" money when they have no intention of paying it back and would crucify the guy if he asked for the money.
-- But on the other hand, Mr. Wall Street did put party girl up for the night and wasn't chivalrous enough to drop her off in a car to her place, and so it wouldn't have been too much for him to just hand over $10 instead of the wise-guy line about the cash machine.

So net-net, I'm going to have to agree with Matchmaker and Party Girl -- Mr. Wall St. is callous, cheap, and ill-mannered.

I have no idea whether your wall street guy friend is "cheap" or not. However, I can say that his behavior indicates an ill mannered, ill-bred person, who is not a gentleman. He also only exposed his own character, lack of generosity and his selfishness with this single act. Particularly when this young woman came as a guest to his home, he not only should have given her cab fare, he should have walked her downstairs and placed her in a taxi.

Unfortunately, this kind of behavior seems to run rampant in this city, where the ratio of men to women is low and men no longer feel any need to behave with any respect or chivalrey towards women. I hope this young woman does not waste any more time even thinking about this man.

I never respons, Cass, but I thought "what the heck?", since this one (as many are) is a no-brainer.

Of course, they should nix him! Yes, he's shown that he is not only cheap but ill-mannered and self-centered.
Y'know, so often it is all about the GESTURE. A gesture (or lack thereof) speaks VOLUMES! It means you're THINKING OF SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF!!! And, often it does not have to include money. In this case it did, but so very little!
And my guess is - he is NOT neccessarily a man who will pay his mortgage on time, either. Maybe he's the type of man who only does what (and who) is easy and what benefits HIMSELF. My guess is, he might very well miss a mortgage payment in lieu of something he wants more for himself.
And most importantly, what good is a man who makes mortgage payments (probably only his half, too) if he takes you for granted? (and vice versa)
If that's what you want, then...personally, I couldn't give, and never have given a whit about money. i've done amazing things in my life on very little and seem to be a helluva lot happier than most of the other social animals on this island.
Look - and this goes to almost EVERY scenario you post about, Cass - if all you go for is SUPERFICIAL, why, oh why are you surprised when you GET IT?

She should've asked for the money up front. Although I'm personally thinking she was low-balling herself at ten dollars.

I thought that $10 was a pretty good price for a shag. If the invoice is dressed up as "cab fare", even better.

I'd have paid straight away before the price went up.

This guy simply has no class -- wanting to date the girl or not. You have 2 girls in a cab with you and you give one girl change for a $10?

Who raised him?

People seem to forget that this is a Wall Street character. Personally, I would have dated him. If the girl told Cass that she was from CT and she is able to get into PM, then she should have no problem using the cash machine.
